Four state lawmakers trying to regulate marijuana dispensaries sent a request to Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. on Monday to stop raids on medical marijuana operations.

Last week Rhode Island became the fifth state this legislative session to introduce legislation seeking to legalize and regulate the adult use, possession, production, and distribution of non-medical marijuana. Also last week lawmakers in the Hawaii Senate approved legislation seeking to ‘decriminalize’ (replace criminal penalties with civil fines) marijuana possession offenses — a policy reform that now exists in thirteen states.

Ordering pieces of sophisticated farming equipment through the mail has led to charges against David R. Huskey, 42, who is accused of growing marijuana in the bedroom of his Naperville home.

Today the New York Times has several articles describing the effects of budget cuts in various states. On the front page is a story about Arizona's effort to save money by shutting roadside rest stops, angering people in that state. Inside, on the front page of the National section, is a story about protests in California over cuts to education.

Once again members of the mainstream media are running wild with the notion that marijuana use causes schizophrenia and psychosis.

To add insult to injury, this latest dose of reefer rhetoric comes only days after investigators in the United Kingdom reported in the prestigious scientific journal Addiction that the available evidence in support of this theory is "neither very new, nor by normal criteria, particularly compelling."
